Finland gives adults two routes and neither carries a large case comfortably. Public oral healthcare is delivered by the wellbeing services counties with statutory client fees; social assistance can cover those fees, and publicly provided prosthetic dentistry including the technical work ordered from a dental technician, for people on low incomes.

The private route is reimbursed by Kela, but at a level that is real rather than transformative. From 1 January 2024 the reimbursement for a basic dental examination by a dentist rose from €15.50 to €30, and Parliament expanded private healthcare reimbursement from 1 May 2025 to include up to two oral hygienist appointments a year without a dentist's referral, with the dental and oral health examination reimbursable once every two years as before. These are contributions towards examinations and hygiene, not towards prosthetic reconstruction.

Getting there

One structural point shapes every Europe-to-China itinerary right now. European airlines cannot overfly Russia and Chinese airlines can, which makes the same route cheaper and roughly an hour shorter for a Chinese carrier. The result is that Chinese carriers now hold around 83% of China-Europe capacity, and several European airlines — SAS, LOT and Virgin Atlantic among them — have withdrawn from mainland China altogether. In practice that means the direct options into Shanghai are mostly Chinese-operated, schedules have changed repeatedly since 2022, and you should check current timetables rather than assume last year's route still runs.

What dental care costs you at home

The honest summary for a Finnish adult facing a large restorative case is that public care carries a client fee and a queue, and the private alternative attracts a Kela contribution scaled to examinations rather than to the case. Neither mechanism scales with the size of the bill, which is the relevant property when the bill is large.

What fits a 30-day stay

• Veneers — typically two visits about a week apart, comfortably inside a 30-day stay.
• Full-arch implant treatment with immediate-load provisional teeth — the surgical stage and provisionals fit; the final prosthesis needs a second trip months later.
• Crowns and onlays, where the laboratory stage is the constraint rather than healing.
• Examination, imaging and a written treatment plan you can take home.

What does not fit

A single implant is the common misunderstanding. The implant has to fuse with the bone before the crown goes on, and that takes months, not days — so a single implant cannot be started and finished in one trip regardless of how long your entry permits. Orthodontics is the same problem at a larger scale: it needs review appointments over roughly two years, which realistically only works if you live in China.
