What dental work actually costs in China — with the source documents
Shanghai's health insurance bureau publishes a maximum price per dental item for public institutions. We can walk you through the actual documents in Chinese, explain why the implant ceiling is not the implant bill (consumables are billed separately, and they are the larger half), and point out where a widely-repeated figure has quietly dropped the hardware.
Why China is missing from almost every dental-tourism guide
Most "best destinations" lists run Mexico, Turkey, Hungary, Thailand and stop. Meanwhile Chinese hospitals reported 1.28 million foreign patient admissions in 2025, Shanghai designated 22 hospitals for international patients, and visa-free entry expanded. We can supply the public sources for each of those and say where the numbers are softer than they look.
The viral "flew to China for my teeth" videos — what they leave out
A wave of English-language videos in 2026 pushed one hospital and one story: how much I saved. The questions underneath them are still unanswered — how a patient judges whether a quote is fair, what happens for non-cosmetic work, what the follow-up looks like from another continent. We deal with those every week.

Access to patients and clinics
We can approach English-speaking patients we have worked with for on-the-record interviews — with their consent, arranged individually, never as a supplied list. In Shanghai we can introduce you to partner clinics for filming or an interview.
Data you can use without asking
Both datasets are published under CC BY 4.0 — free to reuse, including commercially, with attribution and a link. Machine-readable versions are on each page.
- China Dental Price Index — Shanghai's government price ceilings for public institutions, listed rates at named private clinics, and reference ranges, across 11 procedure groups. Last verified 2026-08, reviewed quarterly. (CSV · JSON)

Who we are
China Medical Journey is built by a Peking University team — clinicians with experience at China's leading hospitals, including Peking Union Medical College Hospital (协和), working alongside professionals from the insurance industry, including Ping An. We know the medicine, and we know how to get you reimbursed.

What we will not claim
Listed here so you do not have to find the edges yourself, and so you know what a quote from us is worth.
- That we are a medical provider. We are a coordination service. Diagnosis and treatment are delivered by licensed hospitals and clinicians, and we do not give medical advice.
- That any price we publish is a quote. Government ceilings, clinic listed rates and reported ranges answer three different questions and none of them is your bill.
- That the clinics in our hospital directory are our partners. That list is for orientation — our contracted partner clinics are in Shanghai only, and we say which is which.
- Rankings, accreditation status or patient outcomes for any facility. We cannot verify those independently, so we do not repeat them.
- Any patient testimonial we do not have in writing, with permission to publish.
