Dental treatment in China from Singapore — A treaty-based mutual exemption, not a temporary policy — and a five-hour flight.

Singapore's position differs from every other country on this site in a way that is easy to miss. Singaporeans do not travel to China under the unilateral visa-free policy — the one that carries an expiry date and gets extended year by year. Singapore and China signed a mutual visa exemption agreement on 25 January 2024, in force from 9 February 2024, under which ordinary passport holders of both countries may enter and stay for up to 30 days. Being a bilateral agreement rather than a unilateral concession, it is not tied to the 31 December 2026 review date that applies to the European and Australasian arrangements.

The other difference is distance. Singapore to Shanghai is about five to six hours with no meaningful time change. That collapses the logistics that make treatment abroad awkward elsewhere: a two-appointment case does not require you to stay in China between visits if you would rather not, and a follow-up trip months later for a final prosthesis is a weekend, not an expedition.

Getting there

Shanghai is roughly a five-to-six-hour flight from Changi with frequent daily service and effectively no time-zone adjustment. Both Pudong and Hongqiao are well connected, and the short sector means a second trip for a final prosthesis is genuinely low-friction rather than a reason to compromise on the treatment plan.

What fits a 30-day stay

• Veneers — typically two visits about a week apart, comfortably inside a 30-day stay.
• Full-arch implant treatment with immediate-load provisional teeth — the surgical stage and provisionals fit; the final prosthesis needs a second trip months later.
• Crowns and onlays, where the laboratory stage is the constraint rather than healing.
• Examination, imaging and a written treatment plan you can take home.

What does not fit

A single implant is the common misunderstanding. The implant has to fuse with the bone before the crown goes on, and that takes months, not days — so a single implant cannot be started and finished in one trip regardless of how long your entry permits. Orthodontics is the same problem at a larger scale: it needs review appointments over roughly two years, which realistically only works if you live in China.
