The most practical question before flying to China for dental work isn’t the price — it’s how long you’ll be there, and whether it’s one trip or two. The answer depends almost entirely on the procedure. The short version: most dental work fits in a single trip of a few days to a week; implants are the main exception, because they need months of bone healing between two trips. Here’s the breakdown, procedure by procedure.

Single-trip work: a few days to a week
Most dental work is comfortably done in one visit to China:
- Cleaning, whitening, fillings and simple extractions are single appointments — bookable around a short stay or even a stopover.
- Veneers and lab-made crowns take two visits a few days apart (prepare and impress, then fit), so plan about a week. Some clinics offer same-day CAD/CAM crowns milled in the clinic, which collapse this into one appointment.
- Root canals are usually one to two visits; back teeth then often need a crown, which can frequently be completed inside the same one-to-two-week window. See root canal in China.

The exception: implants need two trips
A dental implant can’t be rushed into one trip. The post is placed, then needs three to six months to fuse with the jawbone before the crown goes on — so the normal pattern is two trips: placement, then the crown after healing. Same-day “immediate load” implants exist for suitable cases, but they aren’t right for everyone, so confirm your case with the dentist before planning around a single visit. Orthodontics: not a visitor treatment
Braces and clear aligners run for months to years of periodic in-person reviews, so they suit residents and frequent visitors rather than one-off travellers. Aligners travel better than fixed braces — clinics can dispense several tray stages at once and some offer remote monitoring — but you cannot complete a course on a single trip. - Combine procedures. A cleaning, whitening and a couple of crowns can share one trip efficiently — get one itemised plan for everything.
- Front-load the first visit. Book the preparation appointment early in your stay so there’s room for the fitting and a buffer day.
