If you’ve been to the Canton Fair before, you already know its rhythm: the autumn edition doesn’t run as one continuous event but as three separate phases, each covering different product categories, with the halls emptied and rebuilt in between. Most first-time buyers plan their flights around the phase their products fall in — and discover, once they arrive, that there are two quiet three-day gaps sitting in the middle of the calendar when there is genuinely nothing to do at Pazhou.

This guide is about those gaps. They are, for a lot of visitors, the most useful dental appointment window they’ll get all year — because you’re already in China, already over the jet lag, and paying for a hotel you’ve already booked.

The 2026 dates, and where the gaps fall

As published on the official site cantonfair.org.cn (checked September 2026), the 140th session runs:

  • Phase 1 — 15–19 October
  • Phase 2 — 23–27 October
  • Phase 3 — 31 October–4 November

Which leaves the two changeover windows:

  • 20–22 October — between Phase 1 and Phase 2
  • 28–30 October — between Phase 2 and Phase 3

If your category sits in Phase 1 and you were planning to fly home on the 20th, staying two extra nights costs you a couple of hotel nights and buys you a clear three-day run for anything health-related you’ve been postponing. Reconfirm your own phase on the official site before you commit — category assignments move between sessions.

What actually fits in a three-day gap

Be honest with yourself about the difference between a check-up and a course of treatment, because they need very different planning.

Fits comfortably in one gap:

  • A full exam and X-rays
  • A scale-and-polish / hygiene cleaning
  • A single crown or a replacement for one that’s failed
  • A filling, or redoing an old one
  • A consultation, scans and a written treatment plan for bigger work

Does not fit — plan a dedicated trip instead:

The most valuable thing a gap can do for the big-ticket work is get you the consultation and the plan. Plenty of buyers have spent years half-meaning to sort out an implant or their teeth alignment; being physically in Guangzhou with three empty days is how that turns from an intention into a scheduled plan with a known, capped price.

On price — and why we won’t throw you a number here

The reason people fly to China for dental work is real: the same premium implant systems, ceramics and aligner brands cost a fraction of what they do at home, and the gap is widest on exactly the expensive work — implants, orthodontics, veneers.

But we won’t print a figure in a blog post that we can’t stand behind for your case. Instead we publish capped prices per treatment on our China dental price index — the number is the ceiling, not a teaser. Look up your treatment there before you travel so you’re negotiating from facts, not a range someone invented for a listicle.

The part that’s genuinely hard alone

The dentistry in Guangzhou is not the problem. The problem is everything wrapped around it, and the fair makes it worse because you have no spare time and no local language:

  • Clinic booking runs through Chinese-language WeChat accounts; the front desk rarely speaks English.
  • Foreign cards often fail at the payment window, and you may need to settle on the spot.
  • The itemised receipt (fapiao) your insurer will later ask for has to be requested at the time — you can’t easily get it after you’ve left.
  • You’re doing all of this in a three-day window you can’t afford to waste on false starts.

This is the part we exist for. China Medical Journey is an English-speaking medical concierge for foreigners getting care in China. We coordinate remotely — our vetted partner clinics are in Shanghai, and for Guangzhou we shortlist options, explain the capped prices, hold a slot inside your fair gap, and stay reachable in English while you’re in the chair. We are not a sourcing agent and we won’t touch your MOQs; we handle the medical side so you don’t lose a fair day to it.

If something goes wrong mid-fair

Not everyone is planning ahead — sometimes a crown just cracks on day two of Phase 2. For a medical emergency, the ambulance number is 120. For a dental problem that isn’t an emergency but can’t wait, private clinics in Tianhe and Haizhu — both close to the Pazhou complex — can usually see you within a day. A broken crown, a lost filling or sudden pain is a fixable, same-week problem in Guangzhou. Knowing where to go, and having someone who can make the booking in Chinese, is the whole difference between a lost afternoon and a lost fair.

FAQ

Can I see a dentist during the Canton Fair without missing exhibition days? Yes — that’s the whole point of this guide. The two changeover gaps (around 20–22 and 28–30 October 2026) are dead time for most buyers, and a check-up, cleaning or single crown fits inside one of them without costing you any time on the floor.

When exactly are the 2026 phases and the gaps? Per cantonfair.org.cn (checked September 2026): Phase 1 on 15–19 October, Phase 2 on 23–27 October, Phase 3 on 31 October–4 November, leaving gaps on 20–22 and 28–30 October. Reconfirm your category’s phase on the official site before booking.

How much will it cost? We publish capped prices per treatment on our China dental price index rather than quote ranges we can’t stand behind. The brands are the same premium ones used in the West; the price is a fraction. Look up your treatment there before you fly.

What if a tooth breaks mid-fair? 120 for emergencies; otherwise private clinics in Tianhe and Haizhu near Pazhou can usually see you within a day. The booking and payment — done in Chinese, on systems that reject foreign cards — is the part an English-speaking concierge handles for you over WhatsApp.

Can I get implants or braces done in a gap? No — those run across multiple visits over weeks or months. Use the gap for the consultation, scans and a written plan, then decide on a dedicated trip.
